A new study says that no women’s sport in the U.S. is more dangerous than cheerleading. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, two-thirds of the accidents that lead to permanent disability among girls comes from the activity, and hospital visits for high school and college cheerleading went from 4,954 in 1980 to 26,786 in 2007. Concussions are a major problem, and although you might think it’s the girls getting tossed who suffer them the most, it’s actually the girls who do the catching. What’s next, cheering in helmets?
