A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 1 in 4 young women report going indoor tanning at least once in the last year. 30 percent of white high school aged girls said they’d indoor tanned in the past year, and 17 percent said they’d done so at least 10 times over the same 12 months. Previous research has found that tanning before age 35 increases the risk of deadly melanoma skin cancer by up to 75 percent, and tanning before age 25 doubles the risk. Study authors say the report shows the importance of educating young people about the risk of skin cancer.
