Choir Director: Sarah Van Waardhuizen Charity: Pennies for Peace
The Johnston High School Chamber Choir is made up of thirty-two students grades 10 – 12. All students in this ensemble are selected from Concert Choir, Johnston’s 80 member auditioned ensemble. Students in Chamber Choir audition for All-State, sing at the Madrigal Dinner and are featured on the Masterwork’s Concert in February at Johnston High School. Students will also sing at State Large Group Contest in May.
Students in Chamber Choir are members of Innovation and Synergy Show Choirs, Student Council, NHS, Swimming, Football, Cheerleading, Soccer, Heartland Youth Choir, NCYL, FCA, and many of them hold jobs outside of school. Students are held accountable throughout the grading process, as high success in academics is held in high regard throughout the school There is a fine tradition of music making throughout the Johnston Choral and Instrumental programs. Students are proud to put on a madrigal dinner each year, which will be held December 3 and 4. The department also hosts Showzam! – a show choir competition for over 30 Midwest show choirs.
Sarah Van Waardhuizen is in her second year as head choral director at Johnston High School, directing the Chamber Choir, co-directing the Mixed Choir and directing Innovation the varsity show choir. Ted Brimeyer is Associate Director, directing the Concert Choir, co-directing the Mixed Choir and directing Synergy the junior-varsity show choir.
