Mom's Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Ingredients
- 2 packages yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
- 2 2/3 cups warm water
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 3 tbsp. soft oleo or shortening
- 7 - 9 cups flour
- 1 ½ cup raising (more or less)
- 1 - 2 eggs
Directions
- Dissolve yeast in ¾ cup warm water.
- Stir in 2 2/3 cup warm water, sugar, salt, shortening and 4 cups flour.
- Beat well with mixer or by hand for about 3 minutes.
- Mix in remaining flour and raisins to make dough easy to handle. Turn out on lightly floured board.
- Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Place in greased bowl, greased side up. Let rise until double in size.
- Divide dough into 3 parts and pat out in rectangles and sprinkle with white sugar and brown and cinnamon and roll into loaves and place in greased pans.
- Let rise 1 hour and bake 1 hour in 350 degree oven. Makes 3 loaves.
