"The Artist" is the front runner to win Best Picture. If it wins, it will become only the SECOND silent film to win the Best Picture Award ("Wings" won the first award in 1929). The past three Best Picture winners have been (relatively) lower budget dramas. "Slumdog Millionaire," "The Hurt Locker," and "The King's Speech" beat out bigger box office successes in their years. This is a good sign for the film about a struggling artist left behind during the innovation of film audio and its modest estimated budget of $15,000,000.
